GPS-Triggered Stop Announcements: Clearer Journeys in Every Language
How automatic, GPS-based next-stop announcements work on buses, and why multilingual audio improves the journey for every passenger.
“Dear passengers, the next stop is Ameerpet, Hyderabad.” A clear announcement at the right moment saves passengers from missed stops and saves drivers and conductors from repeating the same answer all day.
How it works
- The onboard unit receives the bus’s GPS position.
- The position is matched against the stored route and stop list.
- As the bus approaches a stop, the next-stop announcement is selected.
- The audio plays through the bus’s existing speaker system.
- The passenger information screen shows the same stop name.
Every language on the route
Routes across India carry passengers who are more comfortable in different languages. Announcements can be configured in several languages, for example English, Hindi and Telugu on routes in Telangana, so more passengers understand them first time.
More than the next stop
- Welcome and destination announcements at the start of a trip.
- Safety messages, such as seat belt and luggage reminders.
- Operator messages for promotions or service updates.
Works without the internet
Because routes and audio are stored on the device, announcements can play even when there is no mobile signal, where offline playback is configured.
Built into the Wi-Fi unit
AirFi’s announcement system runs on the same onboard unit as passenger Wi-Fi. There is no separate box to install and maintain. Contact us to set up announcements on your routes.
